Irma Stern™ Museum celebrates third year of weekly art classes with Glenbridge Special School
This year, the Irma Stern Museum marks the third anniversary of its collaboration with Glenbridge Special School, offering weekly art classes to learners aged 8–11. This initiative, inspired by the vibrant works of Irma Stern, has provided a unique platform for these young artists to explore and express their creativity in a nurturing and non-judgmental environment.
Over the past three years, the museum has welcomed the enthusiastic participation of Glenbridge learners, who draw inspiration from Stern’s work and collection to create their own original artworks. These sessions are carefully crafted to encourage each learner to harness their individual strengths while enjoying the artistic process. Emphasising experimentation and exploration, the lessons allow the children to make a mess and have fun, fostering an atmosphere of unrestricted creativity.
The culmination of this artistic journey is now showcased in a special exhibition featuring the dynamic and colourful artworks created by the Glenbridge learners. This display not only celebrates their creativity and unique perspectives but also highlights the significant achievements of learners who often face barriers to learning and are frequently marginalised.
For these young artists and their families, seeing their work displayed in the esteemed Irma Stern Museum is a moment of pride, appreciation, and validation. This exhibition stands as a testament to their talent and the inclusive ethos of the museum, reinforcing the importance of providing equal opportunities for all to express and celebrate their artistic potential.
