Gardening with Irma
We love it when our guests support the UCT Irma Stern™ Museum with their time, energy and suggestions. In this case, a few Irma Stern Museum friends mentioned that they would like to volunteer to help keep the museum garden looking beautiful (or make it even more beautiful)!
You might know that Irma Stern was an avid gardener and that many of the plants that make the garden special would have been planted by her. Some of the planting even pre-dated Irma, when architect and Mayor of Cape Town, John Parker, lived here, or going even further back when the property was a farm with a single-storey thatch cottage. There are magnificent magnolia trees, the shocking magenta bromeliads, a line of oaks and an ancient pomegranate.
Do you feel like joining the informal museum ‘gardening club’? If yes, please email Lucinda at irmastern@uct.ac.za or call 021 650 7244 for details.
Jazz on the Lawn
After a successful debut ‘Jazz on the Lawn’ event in 2022, we again invite you to join the UCT Irma Stern Museum and inspiring jazz musicians to enjoy music, friends, family and food. Bring your picnic and relax under the tall trees of the museum’s beautiful Secret Garden for a session of smooth jazz. The musical talents of Zinzi Dinginto, Lebohang Banda and Matthew Mentor are all UCT College of Music alums and will perform jazz standards, local favourites and their own original compositions.
- Thursday 9 February | 15.30 – 18.00: Zinzi Dinginto (vocalist) and Matthew Mentor (guitarist)
- Saturday 4 March | 10.30 – 13.30: Lebohang Banda (vocalist) and Matthew Mentor (guitarist)
Please note that booking is essential at irmastern@uct.ac.za, 060 827 0787 or 021 650 72 40
Admission per session is R100 and free for UCT students and Under 18s.
We thank the Mauerberger Foundation Fund for supporting these events and championing our South African talent.
We hope to see you soon.
All the best from the ISM Team
