Monthly workshops
The UCT Irma Stern™ Museum is a place for creativity: the creativity of Irma Stern, of the artists and crafters represented through the pieces Stern collected, the creativity of invited artists, students, learners, and even the creativity of nature in the beautiful Secret Garden.
In 2023 we invite you to bring your creativity to the ISM – join us for monthly art classes presented at the museum on every second Saturday of the month. The ad hoc art workshops hosted by the museum in 2022 were met with such enthusiasm and with so many requests for a more regular programme that the ISM Team, together with invited presenters, look forward to enjoying regular relaxed, non-judgemental and experimental art classes with you.

Current Exhibitions
We welcome you back to the UCT Irma Stern Museum to see two special exhibitions currently on display. Georgina Gratrix’s “The Cult of Ugliness” has attracted much attention in the press and from visitors, with many comments on Georgina’s wit and luscious paint application.
Additionally, “How I Began to Paint” opened recently. This show marks a hundred years since Irma Stern held her first solo exhibition in South Africa – an infamous event that was described as a scandal in the South African art world of 1922. “How I Began to Paint” looks at key themes in Irma Stern’s early life and art leading up to the 1922 show. The exhibition was co-curated by Sakhi Gcina and the ISM Team.
We look forward to seeing you again at the UCT Irma Stern Museum.
With best wishes from the ISM Team
