24/05 + 04/06: Workshop "Old Meets New"
Led by the Irma Stern Museum Curator and Educator Nobukho Nqaba, this practical workshop is inspired by Athi Patra Ruga's fascination with Irma Stern's work. Athi has spent an enormous amount of time engaging with Stern's work, unpacking key themes. Workshop participants will similarly engage with Irma Stern's work and practise the "radical act of looking and speaking about what artists do" (Patra, 2022).
At the workshop, you will look at Irma Stern and Athi Patra Ruga's work, pairing these with other South African artists like George Pemba, Gerard Sekoto, Gladys Mgudlandlu, Walter Battiss, Alexis Preller, Dumile Feni and Robert Hodgins. You will create your own remix inspired by Irma and Athis' work; hence the theme Old Meets New.
Date and times: Tue 24 May 2022 11:30 – 13:00 | Sat 4 June 2022 11:30 - 13:00
Price: R 250 incl. workshop materials and refreshments
