Newsletter 8/23: Coming up in November

Jazz on the Lawn

By now, our annual Jazz on the Lawn event has become a bit of an institution, with this being the third year where we invite you to bring a picnic and listen to light jazz. This year, we will celebrate the beautiful vocal talents of Zinzi Dinginto, accompanied by pianist Ludumo Mdolo. Experience the magic of Irma Stern’s park-like Secret Garden in the most relaxing way – with families and friends, surrounded by nature and uplifting music.

You are welcome to arrive early and look through the museum, which closes at 18:15. The 45-minute singing set will start at 18:15, and you have until 19:45 to enjoy your picnic. Numbers are limited, so please remember to book on Quicket at https://qkt.io/Jazz_on_the_Lawn.

  • Date: 24 November
  • Time: 18:00–19:45
  • General admission: R 110, Under-18s: R55, Students: a limited number of free tickets are available.

Professional Development Art Workshops

Thanks to our generous funders, the Irma Stern Museum will again present a three-day professional development workshop for soon-to-graduate artists.

Over three days, participants will be coached by leading industry figures on how to maximise their impact and success in the art world. Writer, editor and social media specialist Misha Krynauw, photographer and lecturer Lauren Theunissen and curator and director at Stevenson Gallery Sisipho Ngodwana will present practical hands-on workshops covering everything from writing artists’ statements, biographies, and press releases to how to photograph a portfolio with a cellphone, and roles and expectations within a gallery setting.

We invite soon-to-graduate artists to apply for this programme by sending a half-page motivation and biography to irmastern@uct.ac.za. Please note that this workshop is only for soon-to-graduate art students in their third or final year of university, college, or post-school art education.

  • Dates: 22 – 24 November
  • Times: 10:30 – 13:00
  • Cost: Free
  • Refreshments will be served. Participants are expected to attend all three days.

With best wishes from the ISM Team
